Vancouver Chiropractor Dr. Garry Pow

Vancouver Chiropractor, Dr. Gary Pow
We take pride in our office where you'll enjoy a friendly, pleasant and comfortable visit.

“I admit, I was a skeptic,” remembers Dr. Garry Pow.  “A friend insisted that I go see his chiropractor for a low back injury playing hockey that resulted in disc surgery.  The recovery was just not going well.  Immediately I thought, 'I can’t see a chiropractor I’ve had back surgery!'  My friend persisted and reluctantly I made an appointment.”

“The results were incredible,” continues Dr. Pow.  “Those first adjustments allowed me to participate in my activities again without back pain for the first time since the surgery."  Dr. Pow was forever grateful for his friend’s advice and it started him thinking about becoming a chiropractor.

While all this was happening Dr. Pow was completing his bachelors degree in Kinesiology (study of human motion and athletics) at SFU in Canada.  After graduation he managed an upscale workout facility, trained some stars (you can ask him to do some name dropping), but most importantly began receiving referrals from several chiropractors in the area who sent him their patients to show them how to exercise safely and properly.  He heard story after story about how the chiropractor had helped them in many different ways. “It was then that I made the decision to become a chiropractor myself,” says Dr. Pow.

A Chiropractic Education

Dr. Pow was accepted at Western States Chiropractic College and began four intense years of training that included, biochemistry, a major emphasis on anatomy and human physiology, x-ray, diagnosis, chiropractic techniques and patient care in the WSCC public clinic.  After graduation, Dr. Pow opened up a practice in Vancouver, WA and was asked to be a part-time instructor in the chiropractic technique department at WSCC.

“We love skeptics,” smiles Dr. Pow.  “I still remember the concern and apprehension I had when I went to that chiropractor for the first time.  We make it a point to explain everything in advance and answer any and all questions as completely as possible.  I remember appreciating it when it was done for me and I know my patients today appreciate that.”

On a Personal Note...

Dr. Pow has been married to his wife Diane since 1989 and they have three active boys.  “I believe that the best way to create a desire in our kids to be active is to lead by example.  It will be a gift that will last a lifetime,” states Dr Pow.  “I check their spines regularly.”   Dr. Pow loves staying active by playing and coaching soccer, golf and hiking.  He would like to someday shoot his age on the golf course.  “Based on my scores today I am going to have to take really good care of my body because I will need to still be out there when I am really old,” laughs Dr. Pow.  “I see my regular adjustments as an investment in the quality of life and how active and mobile I will be in the future.”  With this in mind Dr. Pow also supplements his diet with a quality multivitamin, omega-3, glucosamine sulfate and a Co-Q10.

Dr. Garry Asks some important questions of interest to Vancouver residents - Chiropractor Vancouver Dr. Garry Asks...

What's the difference between sick care and health care?
Sick care is largely about relieving or suppressing symptoms. Health care is about improving performance. While sick care is about how you feel, health care is about how you function. Sick care is what you do to treat an obvious problem, and health care is what you do to avoid the problem and advance your well-being.
Can a chiropractor heal?
There's never been a case in which a doctor (chiropractor or otherwise) has formed scar tissue, mended a broken bone or cured a headache. Only you can do that. Turns out you're the doctor! All I do is help remove interferences to your body's healing ability. Ready to get started? Call our office today.
